Italy, and the spring, and first love all together should suffice to make the gloomiest person happy.
– Bertrand Russell
After my first visit to Italy 2 years prior, I knew I had to return to Florence some day soon. Here, the tuscan atmosphere is infused with the brilliance of artists of the millennia past and comes together to create a charming and historic metropolis that is focused on amazing food, wine, and art.

During this particular trip to Florence we focused on the incredible collections of art the city houses, as it was my mother's (a professional artist) first trip to the city. Fortunately the apartment we rented through AirBnb was located just a couple minutes walk from Ponte Vecchio (seen in the first pictures of this post), the Piazza della Signoria, and the Uffizi Gallery. This world-famous museum was our first stop and an absolute must-see if you're in the city.

I have to admit that , of all the amazing pieces held within the Uffizi, none were as exciting to experience as the Birth of Venus. An absolutely stunning piece that wholly lives up to the hype it is given. So much so that it was near impossible to get a clear photo of the piece because of all the people clambering to just get close to it.
Still, though, completely worth it.
After the Uffizi, and some delicious lunch (and gelato!) in one of the nearby squares, we walked back across the Ponte Vecchio to the Pitti Palace. While the gardens don't really hold a candle to those found in France (or the UK for that matter - but more on that later), they were still quite beautiful. (Also, if you're there on a particularly busy day, don't forget there are some nearby side-entrances that almost no one use. Saved us from passing out while waiting in line in the Summer heat.)

While we didn't tour the entirety of the palace interior, we did make a special stop in the Galleria del Costume, which displayed some really stunning examples of "royal" attire over the past couple hundred years. We captured a selection of the best pieces...

After admiring the cascades of ruffles (I mean, seriously, look at this delectable little piece of cake!), we ventured back out into the Summer heat and up the slopes of the Palace gardens to take in the rest of the beautiful grounds and view.

Despite the high temps (nothing a little water and gelato can't help), it was a rather lovely day in Florence. Saw some incredible art, ate some great food, and toured some of the most famous landmarks of Italian culture. But there is so much more to see.... Fortunately we had another day! Check back soon to see Part 2 of Fun in Florence.
